What was the highlight of Axkan Palenque Hotel
Pretty views in a rustic effect hotel ten min drive to ruins.
Located away from town quiet with some distant spotting of macaws flying by. Nice plants. Good base to visit palenque ruins (go in morning to see without vendors), misol ha and roberto barrios waterfalls (skip Agua Azul too many people harassing you there and far less amazing) Friendly staff who were accommodating of my poor Spanish for the most part. Food options decent.
Overall I had a decent time here but these would have been helpful for meand hopefully for other people to know: •arrived at the front desk at 2:54pm. Desk guy found our reservation and said we were early and that we would have to wait. It’s not a big deal but I really don’t understand what 6 min difference would make handing over the key. It’s not like we’re not going to check out early or get extra value for money. The room was ready and they weren’t doing anything. It’s just an unnecessary pedanticness. •staff who showed us to our room seemed like they’d have rather been doing anything else. Didn’t even look to see if we were keeping up and was texting. •bathrooms near “restaurant” have doors that don’t close and no toilet paper, in general lacking cleanliness •pool photo is shot with a wide angle lens- is small, cute - this place is better for families • bar is tiny and not big enough to hangout in. You will be disappointed with mixed drinks they either water down the alcohol or skip it entirely. I ordered capriñas the last night and there was no alcohol in them. Charged 110mx for basically juice and soda water. I would suggest not bothering ordering mixed drinks unless you plan to top them up yourself and instead order beer or a bottle of wine. I have to say this has been a constant disappointment for me. •bathroom in room had dirty faucets •curtains in room torn •sheets had stains- I think they’d been cleaned but just stained. •room/hut across from ours had burnt down- I’m guessing because of smoking. I did see no oking signs everywhere including the eating area but I also saw ashtrays with butts •the road to get here and other hotels nearby is tricky with rocks, potholes, uneven surfaces, dips and partially pulled the bumper off my rental car. ~ many of these comments are not special to this hotel but just something I seem to be encountering across Mexico

Jungle setting for a nice stay
Quite location, in jungle setting, nice pool, good food and bar. Most of the staff very friendly.
Reception was a little slow and stipt on there giving keys for room, not before 15h00, not flexible. Restaurant and bar had one really good waiter and a less friendly, but good in what he did, waiter. inprovement on cleaning can be made, but it is not bad.
